Second Annual Water Works Summer Camp Coming July 9-12
The Henry County Water Authority (HCWA) will be hosting the second annual “Water Works” Summer Camp Experience for rising 9th graders in Henry County Schools during the week of July 9-12.
During this week, the summer camp students will spend each morning, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, touring facilities and meeting HCWA water professionals to learn about the water industry as well as the job and career opportunities it provides.
The campers will tour and participate in activities at a different HCWA facility each day, with the schedule consisting of:
* Tussahaw Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday July 9
* Indian Creek Water Reclamation Facility on Wednesday July 10
* Cubihatcha Outdoor Education Center on Thursday July 11
* HCWA Headquarters Campus on Friday July 12
The intent of the “Water Works” Summer Camp is to introduce students to the possibility of a career in the water industry, where they can make a difference in the health and safety of their community, while also helping them brush up on skills needed to enter today’s workforce.
Students will learn about watershed protection, water treatment and wastewater collection, as well as professional/career skill development. Activities during the week of HCWA Water Works Summer Camp include:
* VIP tours of HCWA water and wastewater treatment plants
* Water testing in the utility’s award-winning water quality laboratory
* A tour and boat ride on a Water Authority drinking water reservoir
* Q & A sessions with HCWA employees who are essential workers
* Mock interviews with HCWA managers and tips on writing/building a resume’
* Financial training from a guest financial advisor
Students participating in the HCWA Water Works Summer Camp Experience are required to be entering the 9th grade and must be enrolled in a public, private, or home school in Henry County.
