HCWA celebrates Water Professionals Appreciation Day
The Henry County Water Authority (HCWA) hosted an employee luncheon to express thanks to the approximately 280 water professionals who are essential workers in our community and critical to the utility’s success.
The luncheon, held at the Authority headquarters outdoor pavilion in McDonough on Wednesday May 1, featured local food trucks and activities for the employees to enjoy fellowship together.
The employee appreciation was held in conjunction with this year’s Water Professionals Appreciation Day, which was recognized statewide officially on May 6, while also kicking off national Drinking Water Week, which was May 5-11, 2024.
Since 2015, when Senate Bill 119 passed into law, the state of Georgia has recognized the first Monday in May as Water Professionals Appreciation Day. This legislation brings recognition each year to all water professionals in the state, while building appreciation and support for clean water, investments in infrastructure, and the critically important work of those in the water industry.
In addition, the American Water Works Association (AWWA) celebrates national Drinking Water Week each year in May, as an opportunity for both water professionals and the communities they serve to recognize the vital role water plays in our daily lives.
