Cubihatcha Center hosting Earth Day Workday on April 20
The Henry County Water Authority (HCWA) and its Cubihatcha Outdoor Education Center will be hosting a community Earth Day Workday on Saturday, April 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Cubihatcha Center, located at 100 Collins Road in Locust Grove.
Earth Day is a national celebration held annually on April 22, to recognize the importance of the environment and our role in its protection and in the preservation of natural resources for future generations.
To celebrate this 54th annual Earth Day locally, the HCWA and its Cubihatcha Center staff are inviting the public to join Authority employees for a workday at the Center on the Saturday prior to Earth Day, with activities to include:
Trail Maintenance – Maintaining our trails is a never-ending task. During the workday, the HCWA staff and volunteers will clear limbs, debris, and litter, while also building a retaining wall to mitigate soil erosion.
Community Garden – The Cubihatcha staff and volunteers also will prepare the community garden (one of several Henry County Community Gardens), including the pollinator flower/herb raised beds for the spring planting season.
Sign Beautification – Finally, the staff and volunteers will plant flowers and freshen up the paint at the welcome sign located at the entrance of the Cubihatcha Center.
Lunch will be provided for all volunteers participating in Earth Day activities. Registration and release forms, as well as additional information on the HCWA Cubihatcha Center and its public education calendar and programming, are available on here.
