HCWA 2023 Hunting Season to feature two Youth Hunts and a Veteran's Hunt
With deer hunting season set to open in Georgia (for firearms) next month, the Henry County Water Authority (HCWA) is offering an opportunity for local hunters and their families to enjoy the outdoors with three scheduled hunts on the utility’s property this fall.
The 2023 HCWA Hunting Season will consist of two Youth Hunts – for kids between the ages of 10-17 – on the Saturdays of Oct. 21 and Nov. 4. In addition, the Authority will host its annual Veteran’s Hunt on Saturday Nov. 18, to honor those local veterans who are honorably discharged, active duty, or reservists.
These HCWA Hunts will take place at the Walnut Creek Land Application System (LAS) site in McDonough, and only Henry County residents and HCWA customers are eligible to participate.
For those interested in participating in one of the two HCWA Youth Hunts, applications are available HERE (via the “Community Events” section of this website), or you can pick one up at the Cubihatcha Outdoor Education Center in Locust Grove during the operating hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday, from now until Sept. 22, which is the last day applications for the HCWA Youth Hunts will be received.
The application must include contact information to notify those selected to participate in the Youth Hunts, as well as proper ID, either in the form of a copy of your Georgia Driver’s License or HCWA bill to show you are a local resident. Completed applications and proof of residency must be returned to the Cubihatcha Center, or emailed to Jeff Scott at jeffrey.scott@hcwa.com or Suzanne Earls at suzanne.earls@hcwa.com. Those lucky hunters selected for this year’s Youth Hunts will be notified after the lottery is held on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
Veterans interested in participating in the HCWA Veteran’s Hunt can find an application HERE (via the “Community Events” section of this website), or you can pick one up at the Walnut Creek Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) at 1682 N. Ola Road in McDonough, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., now until Sept. 28. No applications for the HCWA Veteran’s Hunt will be accepted after Thursday Sept. 29.
The application for the HCWA Veteran’s Hunt includes contact information for notifying those selected to participate. Proof of Henry County residency – in the form of a Georgia Driver’s License or HCWA water bill – is required with all applications, along with a copy of a veteran’s DD 214 (discharge papers). Completed applications can be returned to the Walnut Creek WRF, or by emailing the Authority’s Shelley Boggess at shelley.boggess@hcwa.com.
All participants in the HCWA Youth Hunts and Veteran’s Hunt must complete an orientation and safety meeting prior to the respective hunts.
